Financing

There are several viable options for the military student to finance their education.

Cash - students selecting to pay cash via check or money order must pay 100% of tuition two weeks prior to the start of each course. If paying via credit card, we gladly accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express.

Military Tuition Assistance (TA) - currently, the military services pay TA at the rate of 75% of tuition, with a $187.50 cap per semester hour, and a $3,500 annual cap ($2,500 annual cap for the Coast Guard). For those students electing to use TA, the completed TA authorization form must be submitted to your Military Enrollment Advisor at least two weeks prior to your class start date. Normally, to obtain TA, the student must first receive counseling at the installation education office and develop an education plan before they are authorized to submit a TA request.

Therefore, it is recommended that you visit your local installation education office as soon as possible.

Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) - the Floyd D. Spence National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-398), which was signed into law by the President on October 30, 2000, gives many members of the Armed Forces a chance to receive increased payment for off-duty training and education. It authorizes those active duty military students that have enrolled in the MGIB to use their MGIB educational benefits to supplement TA, if the service pays TA at less than 100%. Further, the Veterans Benefits and Health Care Improvement Act of 2000 (Public Law 106-419), which was signed into law by the President on November 1, 2000, has provided the largest increase in monthly entitlements in the history of the MGIB. Please call your VA Case Manager at 1-888-GIBILL1 (1-888-442-4551), to discuss your educational benefits. Additional information may also be obtained from the Veterans Administration web site, www.gibill.va.gov.

Federal Financial Aid - those students wishing to use federal financial aid should visit the Department of Education web site at: www.fafsa.ed.gov

Depending on your eligibility, by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you could qualify for the following yearly tuition amounts:

  • Students with less than 24 semester hours could qualify for up to $6,625.00
  • Students with 24-47 semester hours could qualify for up to $7,500.00
  • Students with 48 semester hours or more could qualify for up to $10,500
  • Graduate students could qualify for up to $18,500.00

Check with your Military Enrollment Advisor for additional information.
